Under current circumstances, working from home is becoming much more of the norm. There are of course some simple benefits of working from home, such as not having to be formally dressed or traveling to work. You can even work from your bed, and much more! But, with all these benefits, there are some drawbacks. You may not observe this initially, but it does become quite challenging to maintain a healthy fitness routine with every passing day.
Working from home presents you with a unique set of challenges when it comes to your health. So, if you want to keep yourself fit and sane while working from home, then you need to have a lot of self-discipline and intentional shifts in your work routine. In this article, you’ll learn some tips and methods by which you can maintain a healthy fitness routine while working from home. Following these tips will help you to keep your mind and body fit and sane.
1. Set A Schedule And Stick To It

It is tough to set a schedule but easy to stick to it. You may consider it a luxury to wake up late in the morning and work into the odd hours of the day. It might seem tempting but if you set a schedule, then not only if will it improve your health, it will also improve the quality of your work. Try to set your routine as if you are going to the office every day. Try to fix your working hours and then stick to that routine.
2. Add Workout To Your Routine

Adding a workout to your daily routine should be the first and foremost thing. Try to wake up early and start your day with some cardio. Try to do it before your breakfast because it will boost your metabolism and will get you pumped up all day. Later that day, you can follow up with some resistance training. You can purchase gym equipment for your home if you don’t want to go to the gym. If you don’t have any weight equipment available, then you can use other heavy items as an alternative, like water bottles.
If you split your workout into two parts and do every part at a different time of the day, it can help you burn more calories. Other exercises that you can do in between your work during small rests are: skipping rope, doing pushups, jumping jacks, running up and downstairs, or running at your place. All these exercises could be done anytime and anywhere and you don’t need any special outfits to complete these exercises. Make it a habit because you have to make some extra effort to keep yourself fit and healthy when you are working from home.
3. Take Frequent Breaks When Working
Working from home is very different as compared to doing a job. You may need to sit at the same place for hours, which is not good for your health. You may be following an exercise routine but you are at an increased risk of several diseases like Type 2 Diabetes, high blood pressure, and other heat-related diseases when you sit on a desk for several hours.
The simplest solution for this problem is to take short breaks of 5 to 10 mins every hour. Set a timer and when one hour is completed, stand up from the place where you have been sitting and working and try to take a short walk across your place. You can even do some light exercises at this time, like climbing stairs up and down, jumping jacks, pushups, etc. They will get your heart pumped up and will boost your energy so that you can get back to your work again.
4. Try To Set Up A Separate Office Space At Your Home
Try to create a space at your home that is only dedicated to your work. Your bed activities should be limited to sleep only. If you bring your work materials to your bed, then this can interfere with your sleep and you may not be able to rest properly. If you are working from your couch, then it can create several mental associations that will keep your mind busy, even during off-hours. You don’t need a professional set up to make this happen. Just a chair and a desk can do the job for you!
One thing you must do is to invest in a good chair. As you have to sit for extended time intervals, having a comfortable and ergonomically sound chair is very important to maintain a good body posture. Don’t forget to set a time and take short breaks because once you have a comfortable chair, you can easily get stuck into it.
5. Don’t Forget to adopt a Healthy Diet

Till now, you must have known that working from home poses some serious threats to your health. Therefore, it is important to stay fit while working from home. Along with doing exercises, it is also mandatory to have a balanced diet. Try to follow a proper diet plan or else you are at risk of overeating during meals. People usually tend to eat snacks during breaks from their work. As you will be taking frequent breaks, eating too many snacks can considerably increase the number of calories, which of course is detrimental.
Try to consume food that is low in calories and rich in nutrition. You can take help from a nutritionist who will prepare a diet chart for you and then make sure to stick to it. It will not only help you to keep a healthy metabolism all-day but will also save you from a lot of health issues. When you are at home, you are always near to your kitchen. It could sometimes be difficult to control your temptations, so try to keep healthy food in your kitchen and refrigerator.
