- Dr. Gowreeson Thevendran is a foot and ankle surgeon affiliated with Island Orthopaedic, a centre for orthopaedic care under Healthway Medical Group. He specialises in addressing lower limb orthopaedic conditions, with proficiency in minimally invasive surgical techniques for foot, ankle, knee, and hip/thigh conditions. In addition to his focus on lower limb conditions, Dr. Gowreeson is also adept in trauma and fracture surgery of both upper and lower limbs.
- His medical journey began at the University of Bristol, England, where he studied on a Public Services Department full scholarship. Following this, Dr. Gowreeson completed his basic surgical training at the Royal Free Hospital, London, and his higher orthopaedic surgical speciality training in the London Northwest Thames rotation. Thereafter, he pursued sub-speciality fellowship training at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, for foot and ankle surgery; Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, London, for sports surgery; and the Royal Liverpool University Hospital for complex trauma and deformity correction surgery.
- Before venturing into private practice, Dr. Gowreeson held the position of Chief of Foot & Ankle Surgery at the Department of Orthopaedics, Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH). During his tenure at TTSH, he was also the Associate Programme Director of the NHG Orthopaedic Residency Training programme and Orthopaedic Lead and Assistant Professor for the Lee Kong Chian – Imperial School of Medicine. He continues to serve the Orthopaedic Department at TTSH as a visiting consultant.
- Beyond clinical practice, Dr. Gowreeson is committed to improving the delivery of orthopaedic postgraduate education goals worldwide in order to improve patient care. He currently chairs the Education Academy of SICOT and leads the Virtual Orthopaedic Education Programme, collaborating globally to provide quality educational events. His commitment to teaching extends to serving as international faculty on various orthopaedic courses, including the Royal College of England FRCS (Orth) Course, Addenbrooke’s Cambridge FRCS basic science course and the AO Foundation Course. He is also an external lecturer at the School of Biological Sciences, Nanyang Technological University and examiner for the MMed (Orthopaedics) exit exams at the National University of Singapore.
